Professional Services

  • I provide brief (16-24 sessions) or longer-term psychotherapy for individuals, couples and groups.
  • Professional supervision and consultation for counsellors (individual/group) and organisations.
  • Workshops and talks on a variety of topics and themes.
  • For reflective practice for professionals in the field, either in individual seminars or as an ongoing process.

My influences

The way I work has been influenced by my personal development and extensive research, study and application of the major therapeutic approaches: psychoanalytic (contemporary relational, 'object relations' & 'attachment theory'), humanistic (person-centred & gestalt) and task-orientated cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).

All these approaches have much value and there is a growing consensus amongst mental health professionals that an integrative approach that makes good use of the main attributes of each model is of most value (Wachtel, 2007) (Safran & Segal, 1998) (Young et al, 2003) (Ryle, 2002).

I have provided help for people presenting with:

  • Repeated conflicts with work colleagues, family members, partners or friends.
  • Persistent feelings of emptiness, sadness or pointlessness with life.
  • Difficulties coping with the pain of loss of a loved one, through death, divorce or actual/threatened loss of employment.
  • Distress arising from issues of difference, such as: sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, culture or race.
  • A lack of confidence or prolonged sense of underachievement at work.
  • Ongoing feelings of anxiety or an inability to cope or concentrate on given tasks.
  • Sudden mood swings or uncontrolled expressions of anger.
  • Physical symptoms with no clear physical cause.
  • Addiction to pornography.
  • Panic attacks.
  • Unhealthy eating patterns.

Meeting with a professional, qualified psychotherapist provides a space in which you can feel supported in a manner that allows deeper understanding of what is troubling you in a compassionate, confidential, trusting and professional relationship. Whether it's brief or longer-term support, psychotherapy can lead to real change and new perspectives on your situation, an increased sense of personal choice and a richer sense of connection with yourself and others.

Please feel free to call or email me for an initial discussion about your needs and we can arrange an Initial Consultation at my central Exeter or Alphington consulting rooms. I answer all calls personally and if I cannot take your call please leave a message and I will respond later at the earliest opportunity.
